The Stockton Society UK

Outside of the UK

If you are trying to do family research from outside the U.K., we may be able to help. Your Stockton ancestors will have come from these islands originally, after all.

Some achieved notoriety in one way or another. To illustrate; we know of some who were transported to Australia: in the States, one ‘baddie’ rode with the Clanton gang, one ‘goodie’ died at the Alamo, and one signed the Declaration of Independence

Further Afield

There are bound to be Stocktons from other parts of the country – Stockton-on-Tees in Co. Durham must have its fair share, after all. Some of ‘our’ Stocktons did spread further afield; one branch of the Malpas Stocktons had offshoots in Suffolk and London, for example. However, our members are descended from Stocktons from in or around Cheshire and we must make it clear that these are the areas in which we are researching. We’re not a One Name Society.

There is also a possibility that your ancestor may have been the sole surviving male Stockton, taking the bloodline with him when he left these islands. Tracing Stockton relatives may be difficult because they may not exist!

Direct Line Family Tree

Barry’s yDNA site www.stocktondnaproject.com has lots of information on it which may help you; many of the people who’ve done the yDNA profiles have added their direct male line family tree, which may in itself save you an enormous amount of effort.

We have a number of contacts in the U.S.A., Canada and Australia at present, and we may be able to help with information or people to contact.

So DO get in touch:

If you’re not already a member, please fill in membership & standing order forms, with details of your interests and send this to the Treasurer ( stockton.christine@googlemail.com )
