ONGOING RESEARCH

Every year, we try to identify areas of research that will give the most useful information to the maximum number of our members. We are slowly but surely going through parish registers at the Cheshire Record Office, on Duke St, Chester. We’re making note of all references to Stockton entries in the registers, including those who witnessed other people’s marriages. We hope to achieve our targets each year; if we don’t, those not done go to the top of the list for the following year. There are very few of us who are both able to and who can get to the C.R.O. to do research, which is why it takes so long.

Tattenhall	Bap 1830 – 1942 : banns 1823 – 1905 : Marr 1763 – 1947 : bur 1813 – 1945. apprenticeship papers & register 1721 – 1832. bastardy papers 1697 – 1845.
Wybunbury	Bap 1743 to 1865 : Marr 1751 to 1830 : Bur 1814 to 1883

We have other miscellaneous records, largely from the I.G.I., but these have not been checked against the original registers.

St Alban’s Tattenhall christenings 1654 – 1984 [check from 1784, which we have, but may not be complete]; marriages 1656 – 2000, burials 1654 – 1945; BTs 1579 – 1902. These registers are very fragmentary!
St Michael, Marbury christenings 1538 – 1943; marriages 1538 - 1952, burials 1538 – 1944; BTs 1578 - 1882.
St Helen’s Tarporley registers from 1558 – 1974; other records 1622 - 1975
